How to match a tie to different occasions
The twenty-first century requires smooth combination of individual style preferences with exquisite elegance to be a part and parcel of a trendy man’s appearance. It goes without saying that no image can be complete without a thoroughly picked tie as it makes each person exclusive and unique and may express not only financial opportunities but also certain features of character and even sense of humor of the one wearing it.
A tie should perfectly match not only your suit and shirt but the very occasion you are going to wear it for. A common rule here is quite simple – the more serious the situation is the more conservative the tie should be in both design and color.
Firstly, a tie is associated with a businesslike style although here some options can be also possible. Let’s say you need a tie for everyday office work, in this case a deep gray suit combined with a lilac gray shirt and blue-gray classic tie would match quite well. In summer time you could also wear a silky tie of brighter hues, or striped and patterned tie to match a light single-colored suit which would look a bit more eye-catching.
If you’re not afraid of experiments you may try to wear a single-colored shirt with a striped narrow tie over some interesting sweater which would create a more casual look, only it’s necessary to pick some dominating color for the whole outfit and vary with the tints. If there is some important appointment where you will have to speak in public it is essential to attract the right attention and nothing can do it better than the right tie.
Generally it is recommended to pick a conservative dark single-colored suit with a light single-colored shirt which should go best with a classy smoothly-colored tie made of silk. Striped and patterned or bright single-colored ties would go perfect with smooth single-colored suits and can be worn for casual business meetings. If you go on a countryside trip or to a club with your business partners it’d be better to stick to some smarter look including cashmere or even woolen bright-colored, checked, patterned or printed ties.
However life is not only about working and there are times when a man needs to attract some special attention. Night-out tie options can be different ranging from genteel black tie with a deep gray suit and plum violet shirt to nifty mustard-yellow tie combined with a snuff-colored suit. Depends mainly on the very place you’re going to. If this is a high-society evening reception it is required to wear a formal dress coat with a classic bow tie and glossy shoes.
If this is a morning event, let’s say a wedding ceremony, and your invitation card has a “white tie” mark on it you will need a light-gray jacket, dark-colored trousers with a subtle glossy stripe, a special waistcoat and a forked light-colored or even polka dot tie, which would create an exclusive refined day event look. When simply going to a restaurant or on a date try to avoid so-called “humorous” ties with bright pictures and cartoons printed on as it may turn out the only one laughing tends to be you. Such ties may be appropriate at a jolly friends’ party or bohemian hangout but to make impression on a lady you’d better choose some elegant dark single-colored suit with a striped tie matching the whole outfit.
Needless to say a man should have quite a large selection of ties to be able to match any occasion and feel more confident and secure.
